Being an Asian American today has changed since the Pandemic because of the high rates of Asian Hate crimes that has changed how people see Asian Americans. Asian Americans and the “forever foreigner” stereotype remains in existence in America. It doesn’t matter whether it’s a third or fourth generation of Asian Americans that call America “Home”. Those Asian-Hate attacks revealed that racism and discrimination that still exist in America. It makes Asian Americans feel vulnerable. But at the same time, it shows how strong Asian Americans need to be to stand up and speak out against the Anti-Asian Hate sentiment.
It also brought back memories of Asian American history. How Asian Americans were discriminated against because of their race and ethnicity. Some of the social injustices were the Chinese Execution Act, Japanese Internment Camps, and the death of Vincent Chen. It was believed that this was the past and would not repeat itself.
Hatred is never acceptable and should never win; only love will win. The hope is that those with a vicious heart will change.
