Since the “Anti-Asian Hate” movement, the Asian American Alliance has been collaborating with FBI Norfolk. Our organization participated in its quarterly roundtable discussion meetings and attended its “Hate Crime” Conference.
The Asian American Alliance facilitated with FBI Norfolk to bring Asian community leaders and members to have a Town Hall Meeting to educate them about “Hate Crime”. Our keynote speakers was the Virginia State Assistant Attorney and a Special FBI Agent. From the presentation, the audience had a better understanding of what was considered as a “Hate Crime” and how the punishment was more severe. It was an excellent learning opportunity that came directly from the source.
Following the presentation, we had a Panel discussion that included the FBI Agent in Charge and Law Enforcement Leaders with question and answer sessions. The attendees were very attentive. The interactions were open, honest and genuine.
Many attendees were grateful for the Asian American Alliance for organizing such an impactful event with FBI Norfolk. Often, people have questions but didn’t know what resources were available. The guests appreciated the interaction with the FBI and Law Enforcement in this type of friendly and safe setting to voice their concerns.
